Hills House is a historical museum in Nashua, New Hampshire, United States. It is operated by the Hills House Foundation and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

The Hills House is located on the south side of High Street, between Pearl and Vine Streets in central Nashua. It is a three-story brick structure with a five-bay front facade and a gabled roof. The main entrance is recessed warmly within brickwork arches and topped by a fanlight window. The second and third floors are each completed by a simple cornice. A two-story brick ell extends to the rear, with sash windows arranged in pairs on each floor. 

History:

The Hills House was built about 1890 by David Hills, a mason, and bricklayer who had worked on constructing the Nashua Manufacturing Company’s mill buildings. The house is three stories in height, with a five-bay front facade capped by a gabled roof. A two-story ell extends to the rear, and several outbuildings are on the property, including a garage and a barn.

Since 1949, the home has served as a restaurant in various forms. It was purchased by the Nashua Savings Bank that same year. After the bank vacated the property in 1977, it was repurposed as an apartment. Six years later, government officials realized its importance and included it on The National Register of Historic Places. 

However, Hills House was in danger of being demolished by a local developer in the early 1990s. Thanks to the efforts of preservationists, the building was saved and rehabilitated. It now serves as a museum that is open to the public.

The Hills House Foundation purchased Hills House in 1995 and began operating it as a museum. The foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the home and its collections. In addition to Hills House, the foundation owns and operates the nearby Hills Mill.

Hills House Museum:

The Hills House Museum is accessible by appointment only from May to October. The home’s history and collections of furniture, paintings, and other objects may be learned about by visitors. During the same season, the Hills Mill is also available for viewing. From November to April, Hills House can only be visited by appointment.

Tours In Hills House:

The home’s first and second floors, as well as Hills Mill, will be shown during the guided tour. The talk will cover the house’s history and collections of furniture, paintings, and other relics.
